Photographing the Italian Dolomites on a mountain bike!

I’ve been lucky enough to visit/shoot some great places.  Usually, that’s done off a hiking or jeep trail.  I’ve never tried doing it on a mountain bike (w photo equipment in tow).  I was invited to join 5 photographers (& avid riders) on a trip to explore the Italian Dolomites. Mind blowing!  Why?

Because you can reach places on a bike that are too far to hike to and can’t be reached by jeep.  Unfrickenbelieve!  Plus the wildflowers were going nuts up there!  Badabing.  Did I mention the crazy weather?  We were surrounded most days by breaking storms.  It would rain for 15-20 minutes then clear up creating bomber skies for photos.  Talk about the heavens aligning.

Ok, lets get cracking.  I started the trip flying into Venice.

Did I mention they have some glassblowing over there?

Then we drove about 4.5 hours north into the mountains.  Time to break out the map.

Late seasonal rains produced the conditions for a giant flower shop.

Who’s the ugly bastard in the photo? Ah, much better below.

In case you wondering, most mornings we’d start our ride in some cool Italian village and start climbing to a platequ.  That involved climbing anywhere from 2,000 to 4,000 ft (oh, my acking legs). Most of the photos you’re viewing were taken at an altitude of 6,000-7,000 ft. And yes there were lots of wild horses (that would come right up to you)!

Not kidding about the coming up to you part!

Did I mention the funny looking cows?

Yep, biking on top of the world!

I also brought my drone.  Amazing the cool shots you can capture in the morning with low lying fog liningn the valleys.

There’s lots more.  Check out my full photo gallery: https://www.snitzerphotos.com/Other/Galleries/Dolomites-2024/n-7SZCDc
